Krachi-West Hospital gets equipment from First Lady

First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has through the Rebecca Foundation donated medical equipment ranging from hospital beds to Complete Delivery Systems to the Krachi–West Government Hospital in the Volta Region.  The presentation was done by Mrs. Akosua Newman of the Rebecca Foundation and supported by the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Maxwell Blagogee and DCE for Krachi-West, Hon. Police Brutality : 14-year-old given 36 lashes by police for ‘insubordination’

The District Police Commander for Akontombra in the Western Region, ASP Dickson Obeng, has been accused of prescribing 36 lashes as a corrective measure for a 14-year-old class 6 pupil, Stanley Antwi of the St. James Anglican Primary at Akontombra.  In photos making rounds on social media, Stanley is seen with marks of the physical assault at his back.  Explaining the incident to Citi News, father of the boy who is a 36-year-old farmer, Enoch Tandoh said “I was in my farm when my wife called to inform me that our children have returned from school, but Stanley is bleeding at his back and so I should stop the farm work and assist to take him to the hospital”.  “So I rushed home to see my children only to see my son Stanley with severe marks of beatings at his back, his chest and parts of his stomach. Akufo-Addo inaugurates first factory under the One District One Factory programme

President Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the first factory under the One- District- One factory programme, a motorcycle assembling plant at Lamashegu, Tamale in the Northern Region.  The plant is a public-private partnership between the government of Ghana and a Chinese private company known as Motorking Company Limited. The factory is expected to assemble different kinds of tricycles including farm tricycles, rural ambulance tricycles, and mobile library tricycles. Mr. Akufo-Addo urged citizens of the Northern Region to patronize the company’s products. The company’s Managing Director, Dr. Gau Yong promised to deepen management’s relationship with the chiefs and people of the area. Emergency Cabinet Meeting Over Likely Tax Hike

President Nana Akufo-Addo has summoned his Cabinet to an emergency meeting Tuesday, as concerns soar over possible tax increases. Joy News has learnt that the meeting will look at options for raising additional revenue to fund the many social policy interventions rolled out by the government. 99,275 students fail Maths as WAEC releases 2018 WASSCE results

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has released provisional results of the 2018 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE for school candidates. WAEC said it will dispatch the results to the schools, and candidates are advised to contact their heads of school for their results. Meanwhile, WAEC has hosted the results online and candidates who so desire may access their results at the Council's website. According to a statement signed by Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, Head of Public Affairs for the WAEC, Mathematics (Core) showed a drop in performance from 2017 (42.73% to 38.33%). 120,519 (33%) obtained A1-C6; 94,607 (30.09%) obtained D7-E8 while 99,275 (31.58%) had F9. Funeral rite of the late Amisah Arthur announced

The final funeral rites of the late former Vice President, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, have been announced by his family. Mr. Amissah-Arthur will be laid in state on Thursday, 26th July 2018 from 8:00am to 6:00pm. This will be followed by a burial service which will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) in Accra on Friday, 27th July 2018. The interment for Mr. Amissah Arthur will however be by special invitation. A thanksgiving service is expected to be held on Sunday 29th July 2018 at the Calvary Methodist Church in Accra. Fire brand General Secretary of the opposition NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has asked the chairman of the ruling NPP Frederick Worsemao Armah Blay, to pay him the money he(Blay) owes him(Mosquito) since he now has money to buy 275 buses for his party. It would be recalled that a Fast-Track High Court in Accra in February 2014 ordered the Daily Guide newspaper -A newspaper belonging to the NPP Chairman- to pay GHC250,000 and a cost of GHC15,000 to the NDC scribe. This was after the newspaper had reported barely three years earlier that Asiedu Nketia used his position as a member of the Board of Directors of the Bui Power Authority to divert building materials for his personal building project in the Ashanti region – an allegation the NDC General Secretary vehemently denied and later sued the paper. Communications Ministry releases $89m Kelni GVG contract

The Ministry of Communication has made available all the relevant documents concerning the controversial $89 million KelniGVG contract.  The Ministry stated that it had through the Attorney General’s Department successfully filed the Kelni GVG contract at the registry of the Human Rights court Monday, July 9, 2018, as requested by the court.  The ministry was ordered to release the documents by the Court presided over by Justice Anthony Yeboah, following an application by two private Ghanaian citizens, John Ato Bonful and Nana Adom Kanyi, as well a pressure group, ‘The Citizens of Ghana Movement’, who feared the implementation of the contract could breach their right to privacy, hence their prayer to the court for an injunction.  The deal, which is meant for the design, development and implementation of a common platform for monitoring mobile phone traffic and corresponding revenue, has come under a lot of scrutiny, especially from policy think tank, Imani Africa.  Imani Africa wa

The presiding Magistrate  of Kasoa District Court in the central region has made a shocking revelation about the state of the court. According to Felicia Gandezi, the court has no washroom facility compelling her to urinate in a chamber pot kept in her office whenever the need arises. This revelation’ came to light’ when the Chief Justice, Madam Sophia Akuffo toured the Kasoa District Court  on Monday, July 9, 2018 as part of her four -day tour of the judicial courts in central region. The presiding Magistrate added that the use of chamber pot in her office makes her feel uncomfortable but she has no option. Whiles expressing shock on the revelation by the Magistrate, the Chief Justice, Madam Sophia Akuffo hinted a possible close down of the court among others, if the state of the court is not rehabilitated by the end of the year.

The Kasoa Police Patrol team in the Central Region has this dawn arrested a 19 year old boy for public indecency over public homosexual act, we can report. The young gay boy who dressed like a lady hails from Janado in Akatsi  in the Volta region region of Ghana and was arrested at Kasoa by the patrol team. The Police have yet to officially charge him (or her) and have refused comment on the arrest. He was arrested donning a wig, with cushion for breasts, like a woman and was in a sexual act with four men against him alone when the police busted them. The patrol team apprehended him while his sexual partners successfully bolted. We learnt he is currently in police custody at Kasoa Police station where investigation has commenced into the matter.

SP vestigates Freddie Blay’s purchase of 275 cars

Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, is investigating the National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, on how he funded the purchase of 275 buses for all 275 constituencies of the party. Mr. Blay has been widely criticized for taking steps to fulfill his promise of purchasing the cars, after he took delivery of the first batch of 100 mini buses at the Port on Wednesday, barely three days to the party’s national delegate’s congress in Koforidua, where he’s contesting to become the substantive national chairman. Mr. Blay, who facilitated the purchase of the mini buses, is reported to have made a down payment of 3 million dollars, which constitutes 30% of the total cost of 11.4 million dollars for the 275 cars. Mr. Blay’s spokesperson has explained that the buses are not for free, and that they are to help the constituencies to manage their activities by themselves, and generate revenue by using them for commercial purposes, to pay for them over a two-year

NPP Polls: Lists Of Aspirants On Ballot Paper

The National Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has approved the under-listed nominees to contest for the various positions in the upcoming national executives polls. About 600 delegates will go to the polls to elect the national executives of the NPP, who will steer the affairs of the party for the next four years. The NEC, chaired by Most Rev. Dr. Asante Antwi, thoroughly vetted and satisfied itself that the final list of aspirants for each slot have met the qualification criteria set out by the National Executive Committee of the Party, a report by the committee said. The aspirants are expected to be presented to the Delegates at the National Annual Delegates Conference in Koforidua on Saturday, 7th day of July, 2018 for a decision to be taken on them through the ballot. Information reaching touchghana indicates that veteran Ghanaian actor, Mark Jordan Amartey, has died. His son, Dr Amartey, confirmed he died yesterday around 5 pm. Mac Jordan Amartey has been in the Ghanaian movie industry for so many years, appearing in all-time favourite series such as “Idikoko”, TV Theatre productions and numerous Ghanaian films. The legendary actor is also known for his numerous tiffs with actress Grace Nortey in almost all the movies the two starred in. He was 82.

Govt Suspends Nurse Assistant Programmes

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has announced the suspension of the Nurse Assistant (Clinical) and Nurse Assistant (Preventive) training programmes effective the 2019/2020 academic year. The decision was taken in consultation with the Health Ministry. A letter signed by the registrar of the NMC Felix Nyante said: “The Nursing and midwifery council of Ghana in consultation with the ministry of health would like to inform you that the training of nurse assistant (clinical) and nurse assistant (preventive) would be suspended effective 2019/2020 academic year. “This follows the outcome of a desk review meeting held by the ministry, NMC, Ghana Health Service, CHAG, Teaching Hospitals and other stakeholders in respect of the health sector needs for this cadre of staff; the statistics show that there are adequate numbers of NAC/NAP practitioners for the health sector”. The letter further disclosed the reduction of the quotas for admission of these programmes since last year.  

Akufo-Addo dissolves GCMC board

President Nana Akufo-Addo has dissolved the board of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited (GCMC) with immediate effect.  The reason for the dissolution is not immediately clear but the CEO of the GCMC Frances Essiam has been at a crossroads with the board.  It will be recalled that some workers of the company staged a protest in an attempt to prevent the board from removing Ms Essiam.  Clad in red armed bands, the war song chanting workers picketed the premises of the state-owned company to register their displeasure against the board for voting to suspend Ms Essiam, Accra News' Fred Alvis Agbenyo reported on Wednesday, saying: “No Frances, No work’; we cannot afford to lose our jobs, we want Frances, she is doing a good work.”  Some of them told Agbenyo that: “We heard in the news that the Board Chair has suspended our CEO.
