Tomatoes rots at Tuobodom, buyers travel to Burkina instead

Thousands of tonnes of ripped tomatoes are rotting by the roadside and in the farms of Tuobodom as buyers bypass the town and travel all the way to Burkina Faso to buy some.
Tuobodom the Techiman North district capital is a much known tomatoes growing area but farmers over the years have suffered post-harvest losses and this is killing the business hence calling on buyers to come to their aid.
Mr. Baffour Afrifa Chairman of the Federation of Tomatoes Growers Association Ghana speaking to Nana Kwadwo Adu of Asta Fm lamented that it was very pathetic that loads of tomato trucks returned from Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso through Tuobodom meanwhile there were several tonnes of ready tomatoes available here in Techiman North therefore called on government to intervene.
Meanwhile, DCE for Techiman North Hon. Peter Mensah has added his voice to the plea of the tomatoes farmers to come to his district to buy because government through the “planting for food and jobs” programmed has supported farmers to produce quality tomatoes and if buyers do not come would make the effort be in vain.
