Reports from Spy News Agency indicates that most if not all producers of long gran rice in China are resorting to the production of rice granules from the illegal use plastic – thus mixing the said plastic rice with natural rice for commercial exportation to African countries including Ghana. The plastic rice, which is feared to be a major causative factor in gastritis and other stomach related disease are been produced through the use of biotechnological systems is feared to be, if not immediately impounded, consumed largely by Africa which happens to be the continent with the largest Chinese rice consumption rate. So far, experts say there is no scientific rice testing method developed yet to detect this artificial rice from the original ones produced at the various points of entry into countries. In a strange move, a middle aged blind man who could not cope with life as a result of a separation with his wife has allegedly committed suicide by hanging in Kumasi. Mobila Yanam, said to be in his 40s had tried two suicide attempts in the past. He was said to have drunk some poisonous substances in the earlier attempts but was treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and became blind about three years ago. He was made to write an undertaken on both occasions not to attempt suicide again. The Electoral Commission (EC) has dispatched 3,500 biometric voters’ registration kits and back-ups throughout the country in readiness for its nationwide limited voters’ registration exercise scheduled for April 28. The exercise, which would be in two phases, seeks to register Ghanaians who have turned 18 years as well as other eligible individuals not registered as voters in the country. The first phase begins on the April 28 to May 2 while the second phase will come off from May 4 to  May 8, 2016, the Commission has said. Source : yen. Com. The Head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Most Rev. Anthony Adanuty, the Bishop of the Keta-Akatsi Catholic diocese in the Volta region of Ghana. Bishop Adanuty who was said to have tendered in his resignation a year ago, after attaining the ‘ canonical’ age of 75 years, had his resignation confirmed by the Pope on Thursday, April 7, 2016. A brief statement from the Vatican to the church in Ghana stated that, "the Holy Father, on 7th April 2016, accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Keta-Akatsi (Ghana), presented by His Excellency Most Rev. One of the vehicles which was part of President John Mahama’s convoy that toured the Eastern Region was involved in an accident last night. Communications Minister, Edward Omane Boamah confirmed this information which emerged on social media last night on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Friday. Shoppers, shop owners and management of West Hills Mall on the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway had to run helter-skelter for their lives on Thursday, April 14 when they heard a loud noise within the Mall. The scared patrons thought it was a terrorism act fulfilling the prophecy of televangelist TB Joshua. Prophet TB Joshua had prophesied last Sunday during church service that there would be a terrorist attack on Ghana on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. All the shoppers mostly students as well as shop owners had to leave the main shop to the car park and other open space. A new report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is projecting that the economy will not witness much growth as forecasted by government for this year. The World Economic Outlook report released by the IMF in Washington DC indicates that Ghana will record a growth rate of 4.5 percent, lower than the 5.4 percent that the Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, has projected for 2016. The IMF report also gives a preview of how over 100 member countries of the Fund will perform in terms of inflation, economic growth for a particular year, current account balance and financial account balances. According to persons close to the IMF, the 4.2 percent growth rate projection is informed by how declining commodity prices will impact negatively on government’s own projected revenue for this year, a development that is sure to stifle growth. An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday granted bail to seven suspected terrorists to the tune of GH¢20, 000. According to Starr News’ Court correspondent, Wilberforce Asare, the seven suspects were arrested in Salaga by the Northern Regional police in December last year in the Northern region for illegal possession of illicit weapons including two AK 47 assault rifles. The case presided over by Judge Aboagye Tandoh at an Accra Circuit Court Wednesday admitted the seven to bail in a short ruling due to the fact that the prosecutors have been unable to get a response from the Attorney General’s department despite forwarding the docket as far back as 10th February 2016. In a letter sent to all political parties constituting the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), the EC attached a document, titled ‘Audit of the Voters Register’, in which it outlined the process of cleaning-up the register it intends to use during the exhibition process on the election calendar. The document says that the exhibition period, which usually lasts two weeks, will be extended, in line with the recommendation of the five-member panel that looked into the case for a new register, and will take place in all polling stations across the country. A five-week training for one hundred females as Community Policing Assistant Recruits is underway at the Ghana Police Command and Staff College, Winneba. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah Commandant of the Command and Staff College, urged the participants to participate fully in the training. Ghana’s national security sources have confirmed that a possible terrorist attack on the country is real, following the confessions of a Malian terrorist who is being interrogated as the brain behind the Grand Bassam attacks in Cote D’Ivoire. The suspect is being investigated by the Ivorian security agencies for terrorism. It was an interesting sight to behold when a blogger cum journalist decided to hold a Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Georgina Opoku-Amankwaa, over a new logo they are planning to outdoor. The new logo, which is set to be launched sometime this month, caught the attention of journalists attending a workshop to build their capacity on election reporting in Accra yesterday. It does not bear any effigy that represents the body or the government and people of Ghana and therefore looked quite strange to those who saw it, since it was at variance with the normal EC logo.
