A week of the “SA three”, the DI office raid and “all-die-be-die” exam


The sad news of Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey's death which occurred on Sunday, March 20, dominated the early hours of Monday. Many expressed shock over the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairman's passing.

Dozens of patients flocked the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s surgical, urology and neurology Units after they were re-opened on Monday, March 21, 2016.
The three units and the Intensive Care Unit were shut down for maintenance two months ago.
Also on Monday, there was an update on the sad story that broke during the weekend about a chief shot together with his son and family head at Dodowa.
The lifeless bodies of the Chief of Sota, Nene Kpetutu, his son and a family head were found in a Toyota Corolla vehicle on the Afienya-Dodowa road in the Greater Accra Region.

His wife on Monday told Joy News she suspected her husband was killed over land issues.
Police say they are still investigating the case.

On Tuesday, the news broke of the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) arresting three South African former police officers in the Central Region for allegedly engaging in acts that “threatened the country’s security” broke.

The arrest was said to have been made on Sunday. The three, Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (Rtd.) 54, WO/ Denver Dwayhe Naidu (Rtd.), 39, and Captain Mlungiseleli Jokani (Rtd.), 45 were picked up at El Capitano Hotel in Agona Duakwa in the Central Region.
Also, a young man said to be in his twenties allegedly butchered an 18-year-old lady to death after raping her at Hwereso near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday.
Mother of the victim and a sister of the victim were butchered by the attacker.
The lifeless body of the attacker was found later by some residents of Hwereso on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, The three South African Nationals who were arrested on Sunday were charged with unlawful training and false declaration.
Officials of the South African High Commission interrogated the three on Wednesday.
Later the same day, some 12 people were injured in an armed attack at a Forex Bureau at Kaneshie, Accra.

Four suspected robbers entered the Bext Nascent Forex Bureau at Pamprom in Kaneshie at about 2pm and demanded the staff release all foreign currencies.
While they made their escape, a woman raised alarm at the densely populated business district.
The robbers fired sporadic shots to deter any heroic attempts to capture them.
Two of the robbers were arrested but two others including a woman escaped.
On Thursday, the three South African nationals were arraigned before an Accra circuit court and
granted bail but the BNI were reported to have defied the court order and whisked the three foreigners away.
The NPP accused government of deliberately exposing the party's flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to danger.

Also on Thursday, the Ghana Black Stars beat the OS Mambas of Mozambique 3-1 in a crucial AFCON 2017 qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Then later on Thursday, the office of pro-NPP think tank group Danquah Institute was raided by men suspected to be National Security Officials.

On Friday, Some supporters of NPP gathered at the Nima residence of Nana Akufo-Addo to “protect the house” from being raided by the state and its affiliates.

To crown the week, the District Chief Executive for Pusiga in the Upper East region apologized for a BECE mock exam question referring to NPP Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo as “All- die –be- die”.
Alhassan Bugbilla told Joy News he had pleaded with the leadership of NPP in the area to “talk to whoever matters and let them know that it wasn’t a deliberate attempt to disrespect the NPP flagbearer.”
His apology came after pictures of an English question paper in which the NPP flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is referred to as “All-die-be-die”, emerged.
