Five Killed in Afram Plains clash between Fulanis and Konkombas

What was said to be a bloody clash between some Fulanis and Konkombas in the Afram Plains south district in the Eastern Region had more to it than heard; the seemingly reprisal attacks have left five persons dead. On Friday, June 17, 2016, a Konkomba man was killed when he had gone in to question the Fulani men who attended to a herd of cows that had strayed to his farm and destroyed his crops. The herdsmen became enraged and attacked him with cutlasses, inflicted wounds on him and left him to die. Four days later, June 21, four lifeless bodies which were later identified as that of Fulani herdsmen were found in a thicket. According to a Daily Graphic report, irate Konkombas in the area plunged into attack to avenge the death of their kinsman in an apparent reprisal attack. They allegedly gunned down one person and three others later whose bodies were identified as those of Fulani herdsmen in the bush at Sakabu Number One and Odumansua in the district. Windham

BREAKING: Ghana’s President Goes missing as flagstaff house catches fire today

Prez. John Mahama is reported missing after the Flagstaff House caught fire in the afternoon of Thursday during a heavy downpour which flooded the premises. Karma has visited the president after calls to check drainage and find permanent solutions to floods in Accra were received by deaf ears. The fire is said to have been caused by the heavy rains and poor wiring system at the premises. In a tweet, which was later deleted, NADMO confirmed the report and assured the NDC and the general public of their swift response to the incident. Upper East region records highest abortion rate

A deputy director in-charge of clinical care at the Upper East regional health directorate, Dr Abdul-Razak Dokurugu, has bemoaned the increasing rate of abortions and sexually transmitted diseases among youth in the region. According to him the Upper East region has the highest adolescent abortion rates according to the 2014 demographic and health survey for the region. In 2013, 23.8% of adolescents committed abortions, 24.1% in 2014 and 22.7% in 2015. Meanwhile, 15.5% of adolescent pregnancy was recorded in 2013, 15.0% in 2014 and 15.3% in 2015. He further revealed that a quarter of all unsafe abortions are performed on adolescent annually. He blame the increase numbers and tread on parents reluctancy to talk about sex and sexuality with their children. Speaking at an adolescent health club inauguration in Bolgatanga, Dr Abdul-Razak further blamed parents for the surge in the cases of abortion and STIs saying they don’t educate their wards on such issues.
