Five Killed in Afram Plains clash between Fulanis and Konkombas

What was said to be a bloody clash between
some Fulanis and Konkombas in the Afram
Plains south district in the Eastern Region
had more to it than heard; the seemingly
reprisal attacks have left five persons dead.
On Friday, June 17, 2016, a Konkomba man
was killed when he had gone in to question the
Fulani men who attended to a herd of cows
that had strayed to his farm and destroyed his
crops.
The herdsmen became enraged and attacked
him with cutlasses, inflicted wounds on him
and left him to die.
Four days later, June 21, four lifeless bodies
which were later identified as that of Fulani
herdsmen were found in a thicket.
According to a Daily Graphic report, irate
Konkombas in the area plunged into attack to
avenge the death of their kinsman in an
apparent reprisal attack.
They allegedly gunned down one person and
three others later whose bodies were identified
as those of Fulani herdsmen in the bush at
Sakabu Number One and Odumansua in the
district.
Windham Emil Afram, the district chief
executive in confirming the incident to
newsmen said the reprisal attack had
compelled some of the Fulani herdsmen in the
district to migrate to the Afram Plains North
District, a situation that had created a lot of
tension in the area.
The identities of the deceased were yet to be
released by the police.
