4th Republic @25 EX- prez Rawlings, Kuffour, Mahama read scripts

Former presidents Jerry John Rawlings, John Kufuor and John Mahama joined President Nana Alufo-Addo and Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at the Independence Square on Sunday, 7 January to mark the 25th anniversary of the fourth republic.

The three former presidents read scriptures from the bible in turns at the ceremony.

Mr Rawlings read first followed Mr Kufuor and Mr Mahama in that order.

Mr Rawlings was the first president of the fourth republic which began on 7 January 1993 after the 1992 elections.

After two terms, he was succeeded by Mr Kufuor who in turn was succeeded by Prof John Evans Atta Mills after also serving two terms. Prof Mills, however, died before the end of his first term, thus, paving the way for then-Vice-President Mahama to inherit the presidency. Mr Mahama won elections in 2012 and lost to Nana Akufo-Addo in 2016 making him the first-ever living Ghanaian president to have served just a term.

Unemployed nurses petition President Mahama

The aggrieved unemployed nurses on Wednesday, April 27, embarked on another demonstration to register their misgivings over delays in their postings. The nurses and midwives at the Kwame Nkrumah circle in Accra The graduate nurses and midwives took to the street because the Health Ministry has failed to get them posted. The nurses and midwives have been home for the past 10 months Clad in their uniforms and red bands, the nurses converged on the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra; where they carried placards with inscriptions like – “A hungry nurse is a potential killer, We are tired of staying home, We need our financial clearance now; no more delays, Evidence based nurses and midwives demonstration”. Government committed to making Ghana safe - Ambrose Dery

Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery, has assured Ghanaians that government is committed to making the country safe for the citizens. His declaration follows the current attacks on national security personnel by criminals with the recent one resulting in the killing of Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi who was shot at the Kwabenya Police Station when gunmen invaded the station to free seven suspects.
