Minority endorse the country's next CJ

The Minority in Parliament has endorsed the nomination of Supreme Court judge, Justice Sophia Akufffo as the country’s next Chief Justice (CJ)
Ms Akuffo’s nomination as the next CJ was made public by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff House Friday
The Minority in Ghana’s Parliament have described the nominee for the next Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo as independent-minded and distinguished.
According the Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu the Supreme Court judge, Justice Sophia Akufffo is a capable hand and believes she can excel if approved by the House.
"The current CJ has had a sterling career at the judiciary," Haruna Iddrisu said of Mrs Wood
“She comes to the bench with some rich experience.”
“She is taking over from Justice Georgina Wood, undoubtedly one of few Ghanaian women who have dedicated themselves to duty,” he told JOY News in an interview.
Mr Iddrisu also noted that even though there have been talks of conflict of interest regarding the nomination of madam Sophia Akuffo, she has excellent qualities, Ghanaians should also consider.
He entreated her to build teamwork and be fair in her dealings with the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG).
If approved by parliament, Justice Akuffo will replace current Chief Justice Theodora Georgina Wood. Mrs Wood leaves office on June 8, 2017.
Announcing her nomination to Ghanaians, the President of the Republic said he has known the nominee for over 40 years dating back to when she first served as his junior in practice, as a barrister.
Justice Akuffo was appointed as a Supreme Court judge by former President Jerry John Rawlings on November 30, 1995.

Unemployed nurses petition President Mahama

The aggrieved unemployed nurses on Wednesday, April 27, embarked on another demonstration to register their misgivings over delays in their postings. The nurses and midwives at the Kwame Nkrumah circle in Accra The graduate nurses and midwives took to the street because the Health Ministry has failed to get them posted. The nurses and midwives have been home for the past 10 months Clad in their uniforms and red bands, the nurses converged on the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra; where they carried placards with inscriptions like – “A hungry nurse is a potential killer, We are tired of staying home, We need our financial clearance now; no more delays, Evidence based nurses and midwives demonstration”. Government committed to making Ghana safe - Ambrose Dery

Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery, has assured Ghanaians that government is committed to making the country safe for the citizens.
