Maurice Ampaw, who is the lawyer for the Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP) has threatened to place an injunction on the 2016 December elections if the Electoral Commission refused to rescind it disqualification his client, Dr. Henry Lartey from the 2016 polls.
Last week the Electoral commission disqualified 13 presidential aspirants, including Dr. Lartey for various errors in their nomination forms. When the EC announced the list of presidential hopefuls disqualified, Dr. Lartey was among the outraged aspirants who protested against the EC’s decision, stating that the errors pointed out in their nominations for should have been made clear to them prior to the disqualification so they could make the necessary changes.
In a press conference organized by the GCPP, Lawyer Ampaw said that while the errors brought forth by the EC were genuine, its actions could potentially plunge the country into Chaos.
“ If we don’t place an injunction on the elections and the EC goes ahead to print the ballot papers the cost will be too much for the nation to bear so the first thing is to stop the process, injunction is paramount in this situation and we have to stop the process, ” Lawyer Ampaw said.
