Police may arrest those who fail to vote on December 7

Police in the Central Region have warned that people who refuse to vote on election day may be compelled to do so. Superintendent Isaac Amekudzi of Agona Odobeng in the Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa District was quoted as saying by ultimatefmonline.com that persons who will refuse to vote in the forthcoming general elections may be arrested. He said voting is a constitutional right and people who refuse to vote may be flouting the law. “Voting is all about democracy and also one’s civic responsibility to vote during election . So on the day of elections if you are seen loitering around and not voting as required, the police may be compelled to enforce the law by arresting you," he said. NPP to launch manifesto today

The party had intended to launch its manifesto before the NDC but said the NDC is likely to plagiarise it ideas. The New Patriotic Party will today Sunday, October 9, 2016, launch its manifesto at the Trade Fair, La, in the Greater Accra Region. The party's manifesto launch comes on the heels of bitter accusation of alleged plagiarism of it manifesto by the National Democratic Congress and the All People's Congress (APC). It will become the fourth political party to launch its manifesto after the Progressive People's Party, NDC and the APC. Top NDC official dupes a mobile phone dealer GHS 20,000

The Cape Coast South constituency organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alfred Halm, is reported to have duped a mobile phone dealer after he refused to pay for 50 mobile phone devices he bought for his party's communications . After threatening to curse the NDC man, the mobile phone dealer, known as Mr. Acquah, got reported to Bakaano district police station where the NDC organizer, Alfred Halm, had filed a complaint. The mobile phone dealer, who later was granted bail by the Cape Coast South parliamentary candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Arthur Dadzie, had later explained on August 12, 2016, Mr Halm and the regional communication officer of the NDC, Kwesi Dawood, approached him that they wanted to buy 50 pieces of mobile phones and that he should bring the devices to them at a hotel in Cape Coast. Dr, Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was enstooled as the Nkosuohene of the Adankwaman Traditional Area. Madam Anita Desoso, the National vice chair of the National Democratic congress has apologised to the NPP and its flagbearer Nana Akuffo-Adoo on behalf of the NDC, over the coffin some youth of the NDC used to mock him. Some youth of the NDC during the launch of their manifesto in Sunyani, paraded a wooden coffin with posters of Nana Adoo glued to it, as a symbol of his loss in the upcoming December elections. The act was widely criticised by religious bodies, some civil societies and the general public. There have been many mixed reactions to this incident; the director of elections for the NPP Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah, strongly criticised the NDC, and supposedly 'cursed' them stating that if it was a call for the death of the NPP flagbearer, then the family of the members of the NDC would be the ones to die in their numbers. KMA elections end in blows again

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) meeting to elect a Presiding Member Tuesday ended in a deadlock again when a fight broke between some members. According to reports, an assembly member, Abdullah Muaza traded blows with NDC serial caller during proceedings, leading to a deadlock. This is the second time the KMA elections has ended in stalemate. The Assembly members had on several occasions failed to elect a presiding member to chair meetings of the assembly which is affecting development in the metropolis. A Joy News report said a timely intervention by some assembly members prevented the scuffle from turning bloody. The KMA has 147 members, 91 of them elected, 44 appointed and 10 ex-officio members, who are Members of Parliament (MPs).
