Malaria kills 35 children in Eastern region.

The Ghana Health Service has confirmed the death of 35 children in the Eastern region as a result of the deadly malaria disease that hit the region.
According to GHS, "it is striving to save lives" of people in the region from the life- threatening disease.
It added "the disease affects all ages but Children under 5 years and pregnant women are the most vulnerable groups."
Dr. Albert Antobre-Boateng, Eastern regional Deputy Director of Ghana Health Service disclosed this during the regional Launch of the World Malaria Day at Sekesua in the Upper Manya Krobo district of the Eastern region on Thursday.
63 children under the age of 5 years died from the disease in 2013, the number, however, decreased to 41 in 2014, and 35 in 2015.
Antobre-Boateng said during the year under review (2015), Eastern region recorded 3,964,941 cases of malaria, a slight decrease from 4,248,681 cases in 2013 a decrease of 7.16%.
Dr. Antobre-Boateng mentioned that several interventions including continuous distribution of LLINS Mosquito nets, proper diagnoses with RDT or microscopy, advocacy, surveillance, monitoring and evaluation put in place to reduce the menace.
Mrs. Sarah Sylvia-Donkor, the Upper Manya District Director of GHS, on her part said, 13,581 malaria cases were treated and out of this 12, were confirmed positive.
3,630 children under 5 years were struck by the disease while 271 pregnant women in the district were also affected.
The District Chief Executive for Upper Manya Krobo, Joseph Tetteh Amgmor advised residents to desist from using the LLINS Mosquito Nets from fencing their gardens and sieving of water.

Unemployed nurses petition President Mahama

The aggrieved unemployed nurses on Wednesday, April 27, embarked on another demonstration to register their misgivings over delays in their postings. The nurses and midwives at the Kwame Nkrumah circle in Accra The graduate nurses and midwives took to the street because the Health Ministry has failed to get them posted.
