THE SYSTEM IS HARD…MR ABRAHAM KOOMSON AGREES

The General Secretary of Ghana Federation of Labour, Mr Koomson Abraham has agreed that the system in Ghana is hard in an interview with Abdulai Mukaila Razak on Radio Universe a programme dubbed LABOUR FRONT which takes off evry Friday from 8:30 am to 10 am.
Explaining why, he said the situation is the same everywhere, giving Nigeria and Greece as examples. Ghanaians are fortunate to have laws especially our labour laws which are favorable, if we have the International Labour Organization(ILO) in place we should rather fight for the enforcement of the law.
When he was asked what is the role of workers in securing peace for development? Mr Koomson said workers should be concern about their environment and should contribute massively in sustaining peace in order not to stop productivity.
Mr Koomson asked rhetorically, where would all workers be if there is war or the security of our nation is threaten? would working activities be effective? That is why Organised Labour chose the theme ” the role of workers in securing peace for national development ” and he thinks is appropriate especially we being in an election year.
When Mr Abraham Koomson was once again pushed to the wall by Abdulai Mukailla on why there is always agitations between workers and unions and Organised Labour did not choose any theme in relation to that? He reiterated; salary issues are intra-fights, there would basically be no activity if the security of our nation is threaten ans he thinks Ghanaians workers can play a very vital role in promoting peace and the Labour Unions should interact with politicians and explain to them the meaning of the theme and its importance.
Mr Koomson added that he sees Supreme Courts ruling on the removal of some names from the Voters Register as a problem if it is not interpreted well and he does not know how the Electoral Commission can manipulate results.
Finally, Mr Koomson Abraham was asked what does he make of the appointment of the new Secretary for the Labour Commission; he said he has no problem with the appointment of the new executive but if they refuse to execute their responsibilities and duties then what would happen would be more than Wuntumi’s slap, he said this on a lighter note whiles laughing.
