University student jailed 10 years for robbery

A Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs Mary Nsenkyire, has ordered a student arrested over robbery to serve 10 years in jail.
Kennedy Abrokwa, alias ‘Nana Yaw’, a level 300 student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), had attacked and robbed another student of her iPhone, cash and other items.
He was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the crime.
Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah told the court that the incident happened on March 19, at about 0630 hours.
The victim, Rose Akua Bour-Donkor, is a law student of the same university, where the convict is pursuing a programme in chemistry.
The prosecution said she was on her way to the gymnasium from the Gaza Hostel on the university campus when Abrokwa struck - ordered her to surrender her phone.
He said before Rose could think of what to do, he hit her hard and snatched the handbag containing the iPhone, ATM and identification cards, US$300 and GHȼ20.00 and fled into a nearby bush.
She raised the alarm, attracting the attention of a security man, who arrested and handed him over to the police.
The prosecution said the stolen items were found on him.
